Why are my users set as inactive?

After setting up your user database within SSL-Explorer you may notice that your user accounts have a status of 'Inactive' and cannot login. One of the most common questions is why?

The 0.2.x branch introduced a new policy based permissions framework which requires that all resources are assigned via a policy.

For versions before 0.2.10:

In order for a user to become 'Active' they must be assigned a useable resource through policy assignment. Useable resources are Web Forwards, Network Places, SSL Tunnels and Applications.

To quickly demonstrate this create a Network Place and assign it to the Everyone Policy. You should notice that on returning to the accounts page all of your users become 'Active'.

For versions 0.2.10 and greater:

A user must be assigned an authentication scheme before they are allowed to login. Users that are not assigned a useable authentication scheme will be inactive. This change has been made to allow users that do not have resources currently assigned to still login and change their attributes and/or passwords.
